Event Highlight: LGBTQ+ Chemistry Research Conference at NYU

This past June, graduate student Co-Presidents of ADSE@NYU, Alex Andia and Sarah Blosser, hosted the first LGTBQ+ Chemistry Conference. Featuring a half-day of student talks and one keynote speaker, Eric Schelter from the University of Pennsylvania, the conference fostered a great day of discussions about chemical research and the importance of representation in science. During his seminar, Schelter remarked on the importance of having out or openly supportive role models in the field as being critical to his journey to professorship.

In general, this day served as a good reminder that being an active supporter of underrepresented communities in STEM is key to helping these populations grow. Active support can start from listening and learning how to be a good mentor!

Congratulations to Alex and Sarah and ADSE@NYU on a great event! We hope this conference continues to evolve and run for years to come.
